HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
Course Overview
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.
This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities
This unit will also include the following units, HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.
Prerequisites
To undertake the HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and childcare setting, you will need:
- To be a minimum of 14 years of age
- To understand and speak the English language at a level that enables the safe performance of and understanding of ARC obligation/guidelines.
- To obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please visit www.usi.gov.au and ensure you have at least one form of identification
- Pre course training (self-study) and multiple-choice questions to be completed before attendance (given to you upon successful booking)

How do I enrol?
- Our Enrolment Form is required to be completed and sent to our office prior to receiving any course confirmation.
See Support Tab for our enrolment form. - A Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills test will be required for each student.
- Pre-course paperwork will be distributed on successful completion of enrolment. Paperwork must be completed prior to the commencement of course.
- All courses require the full amount to be paid prior to make a successful booking. Applicants will be advised of the amount at the time of the booking. Corporate clients, following a successful credit reference check, will be forwarded an authority to invoice on the term of a 14 day account. Facilities include Credit Card, EFTPOS or Cash. What do I need to bring?
- You must supply photo dentification.
- Pre-course paperwork
- Wear comfortable, practical clothing and enclosed footwear (you will not be permitted in with thongs or open footwear)
- Lunch (There is a café nearby and a regular coffee van visit. Free Tea, Coffee, Water & Biscuits are provided)
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of training
- For Refresher Courses – you must bring the original copy of your current unexpired certificate (up to 3 years from date of issue)

Theory Assessment and Practical Demonstrations.
Re-Assessment
Applicants deemed not yet competent will be provided the opportunity to undergo further training.Licences and Certification
This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful completion of this course, offered by Achieve Training, will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for the following Unit of Competencies; HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, HLTAID011 Provide first aid and HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and childcare setting.
A wallet sized competency card will also be issued.
Cancellations and Withdrawals
In the event of cancellation or withdrawal:
- Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment more than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.
- Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment less than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a 75% refund of fees paid. The amount retained (25%) by Achieve Training and Assessment Services is required to cover the costs of administration and resources which will have already been committed based on the students initial intention to undertake the training.
- Students who cancel their enrolment within 1 full business day prior program commencement OR after a training program has commenced will not be entitled to a refund of fees.
If Achieve Training and Assessment Services cancels the training course, and is not rescheduling then a full refund will be returned to the payer.
Smart and Skilled
If you wish to apply and are eligible for funding through the NSW Smart and Skilled program, This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.
