GENERAL CONSTRUCTION INDUCTION (WHITE CARD)
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
A White Card is a mandatory certification required for individuals working in the construction industry in many states and territories in Australia. This card indicates that the individual has completed the necessary training and is aware of the health and safety requirements and regulations in the construction industry.
Jobs that typically require a White Card and training include:
- Site managers
- Supervisors
- Surveyors
- Labourers
- Tradespeople
- People who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person). This can include people working in roles such as delivery drivers, couriers and other service providers who frequently enter construction sites
- Workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones such as electricians, plumbers and other tradespeople who work in these areas
It’s important to note that the requirement for a white card may vary depending on the state or territory, therefore it’s always best to check with the local safety regulator or the employer before starting any job in the construction industry.
Course Overview
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work.
The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies.
It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
Prerequisites
To undertake the CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, you will need:
- to be a minimum of 14 years of age
- to have sufficient written and spoken English and numeracy at a level that enables the safe performance on a construction site
- to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please visit www.usi.gov.au and ensure you have at least one form of identification

How do I enrol?
- Our Enrolment Form is required to be completed and sent to our office prior to receiving any course confirmation.
See Support Tab for our enrolment form. - A Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills test will be required for each student.
- All courses require the full amount to be paid prior to make a successful booking. Applicants will be advised of the amount at the time of the booking. Corporate clients, following a successful credit reference check, will be forwarded an authority to invoice on the term of a 14 day account. Facilities include Credit Card, EFTPOS or Cash. What do I need to bring?
- You must supply 100 points of identification, including (1) form of current photo identification, proof of Australian address, Signature & Date of Birth (see Evidence of Identity requirements below)
School students currently enrolled in secondary school (high school) do not need to provide 100 points as it does not apply (see Evidence of Identity requirements) - Wear comfortable, practical clothing and enclosed footwear (you will not be permitted in with thongs or open footwear)
- Lunch (There is a café nearby and a regular coffee van visit. Free Tea, Coffee, Water & Biscuits are provided)
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of training
Training and Assessment
Participants will be facilitated in a number of ways including both practical and theory activities and a knowledge written/verbal assessment. Face to face training will be under the guidance of one of our qualified and experienced trainers who hold the relevant and up to date WHS qualifications and vocational education experience.
Licences and Certification
This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the successful completion of this course, offered by Achieve Training, will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry and a “Statement of Training”, this is used an interim copy of your competency in construction induction.
A wallet sized construction induction card will be issued by SafeWork NSW within 30 days.
Cancellations and Withdrawals
In the event of cancellation or withdrawal:
- Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment more than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.
- Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment less than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a 75% refund of fees paid. The amount retained (25%) by Achieve Training and Assessment Services is required to cover the costs of administration and resources which will have already been committed based on the students initial intention to undertake the training.
- Students who cancel their enrolment within 1 full business day prior program commencement OR after a training program has commenced will not be entitled to a refund of fees.
If Achieve Training and Assessment Services cancels the training course, and is not rescheduling then a full refund will be returned to the payer.
Smart and Skilled
If you wish to apply and are eligible for funding through the NSW Smart and Skilled program, This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.
