VU21800 Provide first aid management of anaphylaxis

Course Overview

This unit describes the outcomes required to assist a person suffering an anaphylactic reaction until the arrival of medical assistance. Application of this unit relates to the use of adrenaline auto-injecting devices, (e.g. EpiPen®/Anapen®).

The unit covers the recognition, management, prevention and risk minimisation strategies related to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. It provides the outcomes required to develop and implement a management plan to reduce the risk of severe reactions in individuals diagnosed with anaphylaxis.

Prerequisites

To undertake the VU21800 Provide first aid management of anaphylaxis, you will need:

To be a minimum of 14 years of age
To understand and speak the English language at a level that enables the safe performance of confined spaces.
To obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please visit www.usi.gov.au and ensure you have at least one form of identification
Pre course training (self-study) and multiple-choice questions to be completed before attendance (given to you upon successful booking)

Duration

Mixed Mode: Completion of pre-course study plus 2 hours practical training

Face to Face: Minimum of 4 hours face to face training

What is covered in the course?

This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle severe allergic reactions in the workplace.

It includes:

Definitions of allergic reaction and anaphylaxis and
recognition of signs and symptoms.
Responsibilities of organisations and individuals in relation to allergic reaction and anaphylaxis.
Risk minimisation and management strategies for anaphylaxis emergencies.
First aid management for a severe anaphylactic reaction.

How do I enrol?

Our Enrolment Form is required to be completed and sent to our office prior to receiving any course confirmation.

A Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills test will be required for each student.
Pre-course paperwork will be distributed on successful completion of enrolment. Paperwork must be completed prior to the commencement of course.

What do I need to bring?

You must supply photo dentification.
Pre-course paperwork
Wear comfortable, practical clothing and enclosed footwear (you will not be permitted in with thongs or open footwear)
Lunch (There is a café nearby and a regular coffee van visit. Free Tea, Coffee, Water & Biscuits are provided)
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the commencement of training

Training and Assessment

Theory and Practical Demonstrations.

Re-Assessment

Applicants deemed not yet competent will be provided the opportunity to undergo further training.

Note: There is no extra cost for this extra training or reassessment

Licences and Certification

This is a Nationally Recognised Training course and applicants deemed competent at the conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for VU21800 Provide first aid management of anaphylaxis.

A wallet sized competency card will also be issued.

Cancellations and Withdrawals

In the event of cancellation or withdrawal:

Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment more than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.
Students who give notice to cancel their enrolment less than 10 days prior to the commencement of a program will be entitled to a 75% refund of fees paid. The amount retained (25%) by Achieve Training and Assessment Services is required to cover the costs of administration and resources which will have already been committed based on the students initial intention to undertake the training.
Students who cancel their enrolment within 1 full business day prior program commencement OR after a training program has commenced will not be entitled to a refund of fees.

If Achieve Training and Assessment Services cancels the training course, and is not rescheduling then a full refund will be returned to the payer.
